Radio is still on the rocky side in the industry today. After the birth of television and internet some listeners of radio preferred to use those new inventions because they think that it entertains them more and give them more reliable and credible facts. But even though a lot of people turn into TV and internet there are still those who listen to radio. My father is still listening to radio every morning. He listens in different radio stations either FM or AM. FM if he wants to be relaxed and entertained and AM if he wants to know what is happening around the country or in other places. For him it is easier to listen to radio because even you are resting or doing something, radio can still serve you at any time.
I reviewed the FM station “WoW FM 103.5”. I was once their intern last semester and I could say that they are very nice people, even the DJs. They are so Jolly, professional and patient. About the programs, they have different themes depending on the time slot. There theme depends on their listeners at the given time for example, In the morning they have Rico Pino with Bong Nabago in their segment for morning sunshine. Both of them are so lively to awaken the soul of the sleepy listeners who need to go to work or school at that early morning. They also give news about traffics and any issues that their listeners need to know before they start their day and going outside their houses. Next is with Mr. Fu which is a very jolly DJ “okrayan, biruan and baklaan time” Mr. Fu is a very good DJ he also gives prizes for the winners on his games. After that is Justine Bibbo’s program where in he has a lot of celebrities and artists guest and let them plug their shows and events and sometimes perform like singing, or talking about the current happenings in their lives. After this is the ”happy Hours” by Tito Potato but a lot of friends of DJs our airing with him to add a very happy ambiance for those people who wants to relax on this siesta time. They also have Bruce Dilis in his program “wow all you can” and after this is the late show of Choco Martin wherein listeners are calling to share their stories and the DJ is giving them meaningful advice in return to practice and start a new beginning. They have also “choco takot” where they tell original ghost stories, just exactly for the night show. And in the midnight they have the very beautiful DJ Angelina Jolens. All the DJs of WOW FM are all good even though some of them are just beginners, maybe they were trained well. They also have different personalities far from each other giving them different identity. The playlist are also divided just good, and I could say that they relly have good playlist. Old songs or new songs are well researched. No dull and idle moments. They also have advertisements or commercials but it is not as many as the other stations do that are so long and sometimes annoying. They also use ads for prizes on their winners. All in all Wow station is a very good entertainment Radio station though they also have minimal part of delivering news. But it is a long way to go for them, they still need to practice more and think of more things that their stations will be way, way, way unique compared to the other stations.
For the AM station I have listened also on Radyo DZBB 594 the AM radio of GMA network, there style are rally like public affairs of GMA. More of the Anchors are also from GMA news programs. I really love the way Mike Enriques delivers news on Radio. His style are really for radio. I remembered last, last year’s Christmas where in my chorale group in the college of communication sang 3 Christmas songs on his morning program in DZBB. It was a fun experience and Mr. Mike is really funny he is joking with us before and after our performance. Going back, the programs here are for the public services like the “talk to Papa” and “Bida sa barangay” were their main topic is about on their listeners and what they need to know not only in their places but also what’s happening in other places in the Philippines. All of their programs are about news, commentaries, problems, documentary, and information for additional knowledge, advice and service for the people. There are also news programs on GMA that have version in DZBB like saksi, Imbestigador and bente kwatro Oras. AM also have entertainment part like the Drama sa radio where in the story are told by the DJ in a narrative and descriptive form so that the listeners can relate and imagine it even there is no visual aspects. They also have short play list in-between. They have advertisements but not as much as FM has. It is minimal because they really are focused on public services. The DJs are very different with the FM their voices are more deep and modulated. Their topics are more serious and stressful. But in between of their news they put some ice breaker so that the listeners won’t be so stressed. They are more on news analysis, and their DJs especially on morning are anchored by news anchors and celebrities.
After I listened and reviewed this Am and FM station I have realized one thing, Radio will not die on the media industry. There are still many people that will need the service of this medium. There are still a lot of people who will need this because multi tasking is more easier in this means and after all even TV is now have Tele radio, where Radio stations where aired live on TV same with Internet where radio stations have now live streaming and even cell phones have now FM and AM station installed on their programs where people might have the opportunity to listen to Radio anywhere, any time and in any place ;)
